BECOMING A PROFESSIONAL REIKI PRACTITIONER

Reiki – Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council description

“Reiki” (ray-key) is Japanese for ‘universal life energy’, a term used to describe a natural system to help bring about an improved sense of wellbeing and a positive feeling of spiritual renewal. This tradition was founded by Dr Mikao Usui in the early 20th century and evolved as a result of his research, experience and dedication. It is a tradition that is open to any belief system and benefits may include deep relaxation and the promotion of a calm peaceful sense of wellbeing.

The method of receiving a Reiki treatment from a practitioner is simple. The recipient remains clothed and comfortably lies on a couch or sits on a chair. The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively, on or near the body using their intuition and training as a guide. There is no massage or manipulation. Reiki can be used on the person as a whole, or on specific parts of the body. It is also possible to receive Reiki at a distance.

Reiki is taught by Reiki Master/Teachers, who have trained in the tradition passed on, in person, from Master to student. Students go through a process of initiation/attunement to the Reiki energy. They are then able to treat themselves and others, not only from a personal and emotional perspective, but also as an aid to individual development and spiritual growth.

Reiki: a Complementary Therapy

Reiki serves as a supportive practice designed to work in harmony with—not as a substitute for—conventional medical care. By fostering deep relaxation and emotional balance, it acts as a valuable tool for those managing physical pain, anxiety, and depression.

Clinical Integration and Palliative Care

Reiki is increasingly utilized within mainstream medical environments. It is frequently offered in:

  • Hospitals and Cancer Support Centers: To assist patients in navigating the stress of diagnosis and treatment.
  • Hospices and Palliative Care: To provide comfort and emotional relief during difficult times.
  • Rehabilitation Centers: Supporting those in recovery from drug or alcohol dependency.

The Professional Reiki Practitioner Diploma

As holistic therapies become more integrated into standard healthcare, formal credentials like the CNHC (Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council) accreditation are becoming essential. If you are pursuing a salaried professional role, this Diploma is the definitive pathway.

  • Standardised Excellence: This international qualification confirms that your training meets the National Occupational Standards (NOS) and the Reiki Council’s Core Curriculum.
  • Accredited Verification: The program is fully accredited by the UK Reiki Federation. Every assessment is conducted by qualified verifiers to ensure practitioners meet the rigorous requirements of the government-funded CNHC.
  • Regulated Status: Graduates are eligible to join the CNHC register, the independent UK regulator that provides the “quality mark” often required by the NHS and private healthcare providers.

Advantages of Professional Reiki Certification

Transitioning from a personal practice to a professional one offers significant benefits for your career, your credibility, and your personal growth.

Professional Recognition and Employment
  • NHS and Healthcare Opportunities: Holding a professional diploma allows you to apply for roles within the NHS, hospices, and community health centres—institutions that typically require verified qualifications.
  • The CNHC Quality Mark: Gain the right to display the CNHC logo on your website and marketing materials. This “quality mark” is recognized by GP surgeries and private health insurers as a symbol of excellence and quality assurance.

Elevated Professional Standards
  • Verified Credibility: Build immediate public trust. Being registered with a government-backed body proves you adhere to the highest and professional conduct.
  • Educational Excellence: Rest easy knowing your training aligns strictly with the National Occupational Standards (NOS) and the Core Curriculum for Reiki.

Personal and Practical Support
  • Competence and Confidence: Develop the practical skills necessary to work safely and effectively in a professional environment.
  • “Safe Container”: The course provides a supportive, structured space that encourages you to explore your own inner spiritual experiences as you grow.
  • Direct Mentorship: You aren’t alone in your journey. Your teacher provides continuous guidance through phone, email, and in-person practice sessions throughout the duration of your training.

It is a simple and practical Reiki method that can be used on a daily basis to fully enjoy its benefits. Its goal is to heal the mind and body and improve spirituality.
