How To Use Your Hands When Giving Reiki
There Are No Specific Techniques or Methods for Hand Placement
You should maintain a comfortable posture
– Your client should be in a comfortable position for the session
It is important for both of you and your client to be comfortable and relaxed.
Rub Your Hands Together
Our Reiki hands themselves are not the source of Reiki energy. The hands are where Reiki energy emanates. Rubbing both hands together before the session is effective to purify the exit points and promote the smooth flow of Reiki. It also warms your hands so that your client feels comfortable during the session.
Loosen up Your Joints
While you are a beginning Reiki practitioner, the energy flow can be stagnant at your joints. Try the following exercises to loosen up and relax your joints so that Reiki can flow smoothly in your body. Shake your hands and wrists, and bend your elbows. Then, move your shoulders and legs. Raise your shoulders and rotate backwards – it will ease your neck movements. Move your arms like a flying bird. The Balance Training of the Shoulder Blades is also effective to flex and warm up the muscles and joints around the shoulder blades.
These exercises will give your client an effective session and promote your own health. As your inner Reiki pathway improves, the Reiki flow will be smoother and more effective regardless of your circumstances.
How to Use Your Hands
1) Relax your hands and fingers. Place them naturally
Do not stretch open your fingers or close them together too tightly. Your thumb can be a little apart from your hand.
2) Do not press your hands hard on the client’s body. Place them gently and lightly
Be always careful not to press hard especially around the client’s chest and torso. If your client has injuries, scars, and pains, hover your hands.
Use Both Hands
1) Make full use of your hands
In general, the left hand seems to receive energy and the right hand transmits it, however,
with Reiki practice, you do not need to worry about it. Both hands send the Reiki energy to wherever it is needed.
2) It is always best to touch gently rather than hovering
Humans feel peaceful and relaxed with direct touch. It is always recommended to touch your client gently unless the client has requested you not to touch.
3) Place your hands horizontally to treat larger areas
When your client has injuries, burns or scars in a large area, place your hands horizontally to spread the Reiki energy wider. As always, never send your own desire.
Use One Hand
1) Sometimes, a one-handed treatment is useful depending on where you are treating.
You can use one hand and it can be either the right or left hand. Try to be in a comfortable posture. You can also use your fingertips depending on the location.
2) Use both hands whenever you can, for paired organs such as lungs, kidneys, eyes and ears.
