*Emperor Meiji Gyosei

Emperor Meiji’s Gyosei refers to a collection of waka poems written by Emperor Meiji of Japan (1852-1912). These poems were selected by Sensei Mikao Usui for use in Reiki training, where they are recited during meditations and as a preparation for Reiki empowerments.

The Gyosei are considered sacred and are traditionally sung or recited, with each verse repeated three times, to clear the mind, teach ethical and spiritual values, and strengthen the spiritual mind.  The poems reflect the spiritual greatness of Emperor Meiji, who expressed eternal wisdom through his poetry despite not speaking much.

It is believed that Emperor Meiji wrote well over 90,000 poems in his lifetime, though only a fraction were released for public viewing. The Gyosei are a significant contribution to Japanese literature and are seen as a true expression of the Emperor’s spiritual depth.
