Reiki-Ho
Reiki-ho (“Reiki” In English) is a traditional Japanese way of using Ki for hands-on healing of the body and mind, the same way as other hand healings that have existed from ancient times. It was originally established as “Usui Reiki Ryoho” by Mikao Usui (1865 – 1926) in 1922 as “the way to make mind and body healthy on the basis of the Universal Reiki“.
Usui Sensei’s teaching was that the purpose of life is to achieve a peaceful mind state and then while holding that peace within, fulfill our destined missions. Usui said “Everything that exists in the Universe possesses Reiki“.
The Universal energy exists in everything; it is the life energy inside the human body that gives us natural healing ability and the power to live in health and wholeness. The life energy is known by a variety of names such as aura, Ki, vitality, Reiki, Reishi, life magnetism, prana, Chi, body radioactivity and so on.
In ancient times “shamans” developed Universal Reiki hado (Hado: wave, vibration, energy) as one of the secret methods used for healing and spiritual guidance. Reiki is the Universal Energy, the source of all existence, the hado of Love and the pure Light that comes from a higher dimension.
Usui Reiki Ryoho creates happiness, relaxation and healing. It allows anyone to live life fully by harnessing the energy from the Universe. Reiki-ho differs, however, from other similar healing methods in the respect that a difficult training period is not necessary and anyone can perform the healing easily just by following the system.
The ultimate goal of Reiki-ho is spiritual advancement, to get closer to Satori, the enlightenment that Usui Sensei reached.
The advantages of practicing Reiki-ho
1. No hard training is necessary. Soon after you receive Reiki energy, you can start ‘hand healing’.
2. Once you get the ability, you never lose it; it remains forever.
3. Concentration is not needed. Just putting your hands on allows the energy to flow as needed.
4. The effect does not differ from the believer to the non-believer.
5. You do not take in any negative energy.
Becoming a Channel of Universal Energy
Reiki-ho is a technique that enables one to heal everything he or she sees and/or touches by connecting to Reiki – the Universal energy as well as the hado of Love – and becoming a channel for it. To become a channel for Reiki, you have to receive the hado of Love by uniting yourself with the consciousness and the rhythmof the Universe abd by purifing yourself to transmit it as it is.
Learning Reiki-ho starts when you are given Reiki energy from an instructor (Master/teacher/Shihan, etc.) by means of an “energy transmission”, which enables you to connect with Reiki anytime and anywhere you need it to perform healing. The energy transmission is given to each person in a respectful manner, following the standardized method called a Reiki attunement. It opens a pathway of Reiki energy inside you that aligns your resoncance, the microcosm, with the vibration of the macrocosm.
Usui Reiki Ryoho
Reiki Ryoho was brought over to the United States in 1938 after Usui Sensei’s death and became very popular during the time of the development of the New Age Movement. Reiki in the United States developed independently from the original Japanese style, becoming known as “REIKI”, the healing technique for body and mind.
Reiki Ryoho was born in Japan, travelled through many countries and rapidly progressed, with diverse transformations.
Hiroshi Doi
Hiroshi Doi Sensei is a founder of Gendai Reiki Ho.
Born in Okayama, Japan in 1935. After learning countless healing modalities, he learned the Western Reiki and the original Japanese Usui Reiki systems. He deepened his study and practice of both Reiki methods, and developed Gendai Reiki Ho, which combines the techniques from Western Reiki and the deep spiritual aspects and the truth of life from Japanese Usui Reiki. Hiroshi Doi is the president of Gendai Reiki Healing Association (GRHA).
Hiroshi Doi is a member of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai, the original Association started by the founder of Usui Reiki, Usui Sensei. The first four presidents of the Gakkai after Usui Sensei were trained by him and the last of the four was president through 1975, making the training and the information taught to Gakkai members and contained in their archives the most authentic available today.
“The five characteristics of Reiki-ho mentioned are only part of the story. The real quality of Reiki-ho is not that easy to set out in words. If you do not understand the depth or Reiki-ho, you might get the wrong idea – that it is just a teaching that does not required any effort to learn more about beyond the initial class or a technique that merely develops and satisfies some egoistic purpose that makes us arrogant and proud.
This kind of attitude is far from the truth about the use of Reiki-ho, and there would be no need to even state this because the essence of Reiki-ho cannot be defined only as the development of healing ability. It must be used for self-purifying and self-growth to complete “the necessary lesson” all day and every day.“

About Gendai Reiki Ho
Gendai Reiki Ho is a practical Reiki system meaning ‘a practical method for modern people‘.
Gendai Reiki Ho does not teach the same exact system of Reiki as is taught by the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai. Its purpose is to create a resonance between Reiki and its use within the everyday life of our modern society.
Gendai Reiki Ho’s attunement methods have been developed based on Western Reiki, not on the reiju of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai. The Gendai Reiki Ho attunement method is not the same as what was practiced by Usui Sensei. It is patterned after the Western style attunement because it has many aspects that are better suited to modern people since the physical constitution and lifestyle is different compared to that of Usui Sensei’s time.
In 1995 the Gendai Reiki Healing Association was established for the purpose of properly teaching the origin and use of Reiki Ryoho. To help establish more universal and trustworthy guidelines for the practice of Reiki in Japan, a non profit organisation called the Gendai Reiki Network (GRN) was approved by the Japanese government in April 2005.
